William R. Flannagan (Sep 1, 1917 - Sep 11, 1923)
Rev Gaw's successor at the Georgetown Church was a pastor well known in Richmond and Virginia at large, Rev. William R. Flannagan. An earnest leader and church builder, he zealously attacked the major problem at West Washington. One of these was a considerable church mortgage. He challended the church to help him remove, and they did. The letter to the Association in 1920 reported as follows: "On April 15th, we were enabled to pay off out mortgage debt and on June 1 we and burned the motgage. We have decorated the interior of the auditorium and church entrance, and have equipped our auditorium and Sunday School room with new electric lighting fixtures. The church auditorium has also been provided with an elegant carpet, the gift of our Ladies' Aid Society." Such accomplishments were characteristic of Flannagan's leadership. he was well known and admired in Richmond, having served the Northside Church as pastor.
