W. S. O. Thomas (Feb 1, 1891 - Jul 31, 1900)
Rev. W. S. O. Thomas, the eighth pastor, was prominent in the Potomac Association, of which he was moderator for two terms. He served churches at Waynesboro, Craddock, and Falls Church.
During his pastorate at West Washington, on Feburary 9, 1899, the church was destroyed by fire. It was a frame structure and the flames spread rapidly. The adversity was borne by pastor and people courageously; although it meant for them a struggle against many odds. It was not a wealthy congregation. Rev. George E. Truett, former pastor, who had retired from the ministry and was a member or the church, becam chairman of the building committee and rendered valiant service in the enterprise of rebuilding. The cornerstone of the new building was laid July 1, 1899. A $35,000 church was erected and the first service was held in the Sunday School auditorium on February 4, 1900.
