Joseph Walker (Mar 1, 1881 - May 30, 1883)
Dr. Joseph Walker, the fifth pastor at the Georgetown Church, was a churchman of wide experience and many interests. Although he was born in Pennsylvania, and had churches in Missouri and Alabama, his chief interests were rooted in Virginia. During the Civil War, as post chaplain in Richmond, it was his sad duty too officiate at the burial of thousands of soldiers. While serving a church in St. Louis in 1850, he saw thousands of men headed for California during the gold rush. But that which gave him a prominent place in the denomination was his long record, 1838 to 1895 as a regular contributor to the Religious Herald. He greatly enjoyed a hot debate on the fundamentals of the Baptist faith. For brief periods, he was editor of the Baptist Recorder, W.V. and Christian Index, GA.
